Festive Fotography!

It is the time of 'Twixmas' the lull between Christmas and the New Year. A time for taking a break from the usual routine and playing. I participated in a short challenge '10 days of festive photography', after watching a really great webinar on "When the sun goes down" by Charlotte Bellamy on Camversation. And I actually submitted an image every day!

and I was really chuffed when one of them was selected as a leading image of the day:

This encouraged me to keep going with the 'festive' theme and I ventured to Torquay to see the Bay of Lights display. Here are some record shots taken on my phone to set the scene:

The reflections in the harbour water were fascinating, almost like stained glass windows:

and I enjoyed capturing the reflected silhouettes of people as they walked past the large white Christmas trees:

The large 'tree' was also reflected in the water and constantly changed colour. I played with the shutter speed and the movement of the camera to create this set of images which transition from 'reality' to abstract:

It was tricky to take some of the images that I would have liked because the promenade was so busy. Lots of families were out enjoying the lights and I was hesitant to point my camera at them. But I chanced my luck with some ICM which blurred the people out:

and I was pleased to have this Christmas tree structure to experiment with:

Play, experimentation, being out and about, all good for mental well-being, especially at this time of the year. It was so great to end the year with such a fun photoshoot!
